Following the last issue of Selections, Frequently Asked Questions in Art, we continue our quest to analyse what surrounds us in the art world. However, this time, for our 21 Artists and a Biennial issue, we take you backstage to expose you to the world of research in the 21st century. Because the most important part of our work is research, we analyse both the material we receive and what we find, basing ourselves on today’s most common search tools: online search engines, online encyclopaedia, social media, carefully written press releases, email exchanges with the artist’s gallery and the artist him/herself. After laying down the information we’ve gathered onto our pages, we invite you to make your own analysis.

Ahmed Abdel Karim along with artists Ahmad Shiha and Islam Abdullah are participating in the Egypt Pavilion at Venice Biennial. The pavilion is under named “Khnum Across Times.”

KHNUM ACROSS TIMES WITNESS IS A PHILOSOPHY OF ART THAT BLENDS PAST AND PRESENT, OLD AND MODERN, EARTH AND SKY. IT’S INSPIRED BY ANCIENT EGYPTIAN ARCHITECTURE AND REFORMULATED IN TODAY’S WORLD USING MODERN TECHNOLOGY TECHNIQUES, ESTABLISHING THE RULES MAKES US STAND TOGETHER TO RE-EVALUATE OURSELVES TO REACH TOGETHER FOR THE FACT THAT WE ARE OF THE SAME ORIGIN.
KHNUM IS THE TRUSTED TEMPLE SECRETS GUARD AND THE HISTORY TELLER. KHNUM IS THE ENVOY WHO REGISTERED EVERYTHING THAT HAS BEEN SEEN, THE RECEIVER OF THE CELESTIAL ORACLES, WHO DECODED THE CIPHERED MESSAGES. WHEN KHNUM CALLS OUT, ONLY THE CONTEMPLATED WISE WOULD HEAR THE CALLS. WHEN WE HEAR HIS VOICE, WE SEE THE FACE THAT REFLECTS WHAT HAS BEEN LIVED AND SEEN ON THAT EVENTFUL ROAD HE GUARDS. DESPITE OUR DIFFERENT LANGUAGES, WE STILL FEEL AND UNDERSTAND WHAT TRANSFERS TO US VISUALLY. THIS DIFFERENCE UNITES OUR THIRST TO KNOW AND TO UNDERSTAND THE VISUAL LANGUAGE. HERE COMES THE POWER OF THE ETERNAL VISUAL MESSAGES THAT WE COMPREHEND DESPITE OUR DIVERSE TONGUES. WE STILL SPEND AND LIVE IN INTERESTING TIMES WITH SHARING AND LEARNING FROM THEM.
BELIEVING IN THE SPIRIT OF TEAMWORK, THE ARTISTIC MEETING BETWEEN THE TWO ARTISTS ISLAM ABDULLAH AND AHMED ABDEL KARIM RESULTED IN 17 COOPERATIVE ARTWORKS THAT HAD IMPRESSIVE SUCCESS AND EARNED GREAT PRIZES, INCLUDING THE PRESTIGIOUS GOLDEN AKHENATEN AWARD.
“Khnum” is meant to be a cultural mediator defying all obstacles and challenges.
