The art world is gathering in Basel this week, on the occasion of Art Basel and the satellite fairs around it. LISTE has become an unmissable / incontournable fair for art lovers, collectors and curators alike and is celebrating their 20 year anniversary this year.

Since its inception, LISTE has developed into one of the most important fairs for a new and middle generation of galleries and their mostly emerging artists. The mission of the fair is to promote galleries and their mainly less well-known artists and to introduce them to an international expert public. This year, 79 galleries are showing about 140 artists, showing the new developments in painting, photography, sculpture, drawing/illustration, installation, performance, video, film, and multimedia-digital art.

Dutch artist Jonas Staal made his debut at LISTE, with “new world summit” maquettes and pictures. His work investigates the relationship between art, democracy, and propaganda.

Kow gallery exhibits a video installation by Iraqi artist Hiwa K., reflecting upon his memory in the 1970s when eventually his family would have colour TV. Which happens when his father taped coloured paper on it, as many other families.

Estefania Peñafiel Loaiza is interested in the tension between visible and invisible. She is investigating this concept through the notion of balance in her installations and pictures shown by Nomimmo Guayaquil.

Hanna Hulaçová is interested in folk culture and tradition and its place in contemporary societies. In the works shown at Hunt Kastner, she merges ancient idols with modern graphic design.
