Some see shoes as ordinary fashion accessory and some go beyond into the visual and contemporary aesthetics of the footwear. Marche et Démarche. Une histoire de la chaussure at the Museum of Decorative Arts (MAD) questions the cultural significance of the shoe and explores how it was merged into different styles of walking from the Middle Ages to the present day, in both Western and non-European cultures.

Curated by Dennis Bruna, with exhibition design by the architect and designer Eric Benqué, the exhibition displays approximately five-hundred objects, including shoes, paintings, objets d’art, photographs, films and advertisements from public and private collection.

The exhibition is ongoing until the 22nd of March, 2020.
