“Hybrids of Creativity” Tashkeel, in Collaboration with Dubai Future Foundation at the Dubai Assembly for Generative AI 2023

Tashkeel, an incubator for art and design in the UAE, has partnered with the Dubai Future Foundation to present “Hybrids of Creativity,” an exhibition comprising 54 artworks primarily created by UAE national artists utilising generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools. This showcase coincided with the Dubai Assembly for Generative AI event, which took place from October 11 to 14, and it is located in the tunnel that connects Emirates Towers to the Museum of the Future. The exhibition highlights the convergence of human creativity and machine capabilities, providing a unique glimpse into the realm of AI-generated art.

Hybrids of Creativity” offers an array of artworks that are bound to inspire both artists and AI enthusiasts. Many of these pieces draw from the rich tapestry of UAE and Arab culture and geography, adding an element of heritage to their artistic interpretation. The 13 artists participating in this exhibition harnessed specialised AI software to refine existing artworks, descriptive text, or images, ultimately giving life to the final compositions.

Among the Emirati artists featured in the exhibition are Khalid Alastad, Abdalla Al Mulla, Mousa Al Raeesi, Hamad Al Shamsi, the Damithan Twins, Ghanim Mubarak, and Tashkeel founder Sheikha Lateefa bint Maktoum. They are joined by artists like Huda Al Aithan, Javad Bin Kuthub, Jyo John, and Moammer Jaber, each offering a unique perspective on the fusion of tradition and innovation, where AI becomes a canvas for their cultural heritage.

Lisa Ball-Lechgar, Deputy Director of Tashkeel, emphasised the importance of “Hybrids of Creativity” in not just showcasing the results but also the creative process behind contemporary art produced with AI technology. The evolving techniques and tools in this field allow visual artists to expedite their creative journeys, incorporating new layers into their practice and venturing into previously uncharted territories of experimentation.
