Galerie Janine Rubeiz presents a new solo show by Lebanese artist Jamil Molaeb titled ‘Jamilat’, from January 17 until February 23, 2024.
Jamil Molaeb returns to the exploration of the nude body. Through this exploration he embraces the purity of physicality as the origin of his inspiration. Molaeb views mankind as the genesis of all art, mythology, and all things sacred. He is captivated by the ever-evolving form of the body with its details shaped by time and beauty evolving across seasons.
This new series reflects a daily exploration of the physical and spiritual realms, akin to an evolving diary with each brush stroke. Molaeb delves into the layers of beauty through an infinite body, a mirror of the inner self and the other who is ultimately himself. This body is portrayed evoking different human emotions and states including: anxiety, disorientation, devotion, silence, and radiance.
Molaeb’s artistic journey involves unraveling the secrets of the human body, liberating it from prohibitions and myths imposed by foreign ideologies. With each brushstroke, colour, and shape, Molaeb engages with the model figure, sculpting it with new materials, continually discovering new dimensions. The human body has become Molaeb’s new ongoing project.
