Le Paris du Monde Arabe Auction at Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr

A sale at Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr in Paris called “Le Paris du Monde Arabe” will showcase the influence of the Arab world on the city of Paris. The sale will feature artworks by artists from various Arab countries in a range of mediums. One of the highlights is a sculpture called TOTEM by Lebanese artist Anachar Basbous, with an estimated value of €60,000 – 80,000.

Nima Sagharchi, Bonhams Group Head of Islamic, Middle Eastern and South Asian Art, emphasised the impact of Paris on Arab artists, stating that the sale pays tribute to the transformative experiences artists from the Arab world had in the city. Paris has historically been a cultural exchange hub, fostering a shared artistic language between the East and the West. The artworks in the sale reflect the vibrant spirit of both the Middle East and France, with contributions from artists such as Shafic Abboud, Fahr El-Nissa Zeid, Mahmoud Said, and more.

Aside from Anachar Basbous’ TOTEM, other notable pieces in the sale include Etoile Filante (Falling Star) by Fahr El-Nissa Zeid; Untitled (Composition) by Assadour; Oiseau (Bird) by Chaouki Choukini; Hubb – Love – Amour by Nasser Al Aswadi; and LOVE Bleu Blanc Rouge by Zoulikha Bouabdellah. These artworks collectively represent the cultural heritage and artistic connections between the Arab world and France.

The sale aims to celebrate the intersection of art, culture, and history, showcasing the mutual influence and inspiration between Paris and the Arab world.
