Liste Art Basel offers three platforms to engage with contemporary art:

  • The physical fair in Basel features 88 galleries from 35 countries, showcasing works by over 100 artists. Notably, 20 galleries are participating for the first time in Liste Art Fair Basel. The fair will be held in Hall 1.1 of Messe Basel, providing an extended circular fair architecture with sustainable signage.
  • Taking place from June 12 to 25, 2023, Liste Showtime Online is the digital edition of the fair. It offers a virtual experience, allowing visitors to explore artistic positions from the comfort of their homes.
  • Launched in December 2021, Liste Expedition is a digital research forum and artist index that continues to grow annually. It provides a permanent online presence for selected artists.

To support galleries with limited financial resources, Stiftung Liste Basel subsidises production costs. This unique support model ensures the best possible conditions for presentations at Liste Art Fair Basel. Galleries can apply for this support, and Stiftung Liste Basel selects the recipients.

The fair will host 88 galleries from 35 countries, presenting works by over 100 artists. Notably, 20 galleries will participate in Liste Art Fair Basel for the first time, including Blue Velvet Projects (Zurich), diez (Amsterdam), and PHD Group (Hong Kong), among others. The 2023 edition of Liste Art Basel highlights the importance of positionality and diverse perspectives in contemporary art. Artists explore socio-political statements, feminist gases, sustainability, and the use of time-based media, including video, sound, scent, and performance.

As an Active Member of the Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC), Liste is committed to sustainability. They aim to improve their ecological footprint and take responsibility for social, environmental, and economic issues. The fair’s sustainability initiatives are generously supported by the Eckenstein-Geigy Foundation.

The exhibition “Whistlers,” curated by Sarah Johanna Theurer, will focus on sustainability and resilience. It will be displayed in the interstitial spaces of the fair, featuring works by Geocinema, Holly Herndon & Mat Dryhurst, Invernomuto, Davi Pontes & Wallace Ferreira, and Tomoko Sauvage.

The winner of the Helvetia Art Prize 2022, Jonas Van Holanda, will exhibit immersive installations that combine video, text, sculpture, and sound. The prise supports young up-and-coming artists at the start of their careers. I Never Read, an independent art book fair, will present a curated selection of artists’ books and editions. This collaboration enriches the fair’s offerings and promotes the importance of artist publications within contemporary art practices.

The fair will feature a dedicated performance program that brings together artists working in the medium of live art. Performances will take place throughout the fair, adding an interactive and dynamic element to the event. A series of talks and panel discussions will be held, as well, providing insights into the contemporary art world and addressing relevant topics and trends. Renowned artists, curators, and art professionals will participate in these discussions, offering diverse perspectives and fostering critical dialogue. Liste Art Basel provides a platform for networking and connecting with artists, gallerists, collectors, and art enthusiasts from around the world. The fair offers opportunities for meaningful conversations, collaborations, and the discovery of emerging talent.

In addition to the fair itself, there will be a range of parallel events, including exhibitions, performances, and special projects hosted by various cultural institutions and galleries in Basel. These events create a vibrant atmosphere and allow visitors to engage with the city’s broader art scene.
