Hossam Dirar was born in Cairo in 1978 and he continues to live and work in the city. He obtained a BA from Helwan University’s Fine Arts Faculty of Applied Arts, graduating with honours, and he was awarded the best graduation project amongst all entries. His later studies included graphic design, painting, printmaking, mixed media, product design, photography, multimedia and pottery. His first show was a dual exhibition, “Beauty and the Beast,” at ArtTalks Gallery Egypt with prominent Syrian artist Sabhan Adam. He went to have various solo exhibits at ArtTalks in 2015 and 2017. He’s also participated in numerous exhibitions internationally and in workshops in Austria and Turkey. In 2014 Culture Trip Online named him as one of the top contemporary Egyptian artists, and in 2013 Saatchi Gallery Online chose him as one of the 12 artists in “Invest in Art.” In 2015 he received a grant for the Salzburg International Academy of Fine Arts Course with artist Varda Caivano, and in 2016 he completed a residency in Koumaria, Greece.
