Born in 1959 in Deir El Kamar, Lebanon, Jacques Rizkallah graduated from the Lebanese University of Fine Arts, after which he studied mural and fresco painting in Rome, Italy. Following the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War, he fled to Paris, but the emotional weight of seeing his country under conflict is carried through in his subject matter. His colourful paintings of what appear as urban landscapes of high-rise towers lean towards abstraction.  The artist continues to teach drawing at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA) and between 2002 and 2008 he taught at Notre Dame University.
