The Third Line has announced its third solo exhibition featuring Sahand Hesamiyan. Titled “Prolepsis,” this exhibition marks a significant milestone in the artist’s 24-year journey with steel. It showcases a collection of sculptures that not only celebrate his unwavering dedication to this medium but also unveils a treasure trove of long-cherished yet unrealised projects.
“Prolepsis” serves as a moment of introspection for Hesamiyan. Although the artist is widely acclaimed for his ambitious large-scale works, this exhibition offers a unique perspective by presenting miniature versions of those highly anticipated projects that have remained in the realm of imagination but not yet materialised. Each sculpture becomes a poignant reminder of the potential that could have been, prompting viewers to contemplate the delicate balance between aspiration and realization.

Hesamiyan’s art marries the precise geometric principles found in Islamic architecture with his own minimalist sensibilities. This fusion results in works that convey profound and spiritual themes deeply rooted in ancient Iranian heritage. Through his reinterpretation of elements drawn from Iranian architecture, Hesamiyan not only emphasises the fundamental design and conceptual significance but also underscores their pivotal role in shaping the rich history of Islamic art.
As visitors traverse through the exhibition, they embark on a captivating journey into the intricate realm of the artist’s creative process. This immersive experience provides a rare opportunity to witness the genesis of Hesamiyan’s ideas, offering a profound understanding of his unwavering commitment to his craft.
