In June, Sotheby’s will showcase two extraordinary natural treasures at its flagship Magnificent Jewels auction in New York.The star highlights of the auction will be The Eternal Pink, the most vivid pink diamond ever to come to market, estimated at over $35 million, and Estrela de FURA, a 55.22-carat ruby that is the largest and most valuable ruby ever to appear at auction, estimated at over $30 million.

To unveil these exceptional stones, a press preview was held at the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DMCC) on May 22. Following the preview, The Eternal Pink and Estrela de FURA 55.22 will be exhibited to the public at Sotheby’s Dubai gallery in the heart of the DIFC from May 22 to May 26, and auctioned at Sotheby’s New York on June 8

Feryal Ahmadi, Chief Operating Officer of DMCC, expressed excitement about hosting various tenders for diamonds and colored gemstones, including rubies, sapphires, and emeralds, on the diamond exchange floor in Dubai. The collaboration with Sotheby’s to present these exquisite precious stones from Dubai to the world was met with delight.

Estrela de FURA 55.22

In September 2022, FURA Gems made a historic announcement at Dubai’s DMCC about the discovery of the largest gem-quality ruby ever found. This news created a worldwide sensation, generating tremendous excitement and causing a stir in the gemstone market.

Uncovered from FURA’s ruby mine in Montepeuz, Mozambique, in July 2022, this remarkable gemstone weighed an astonishing 101 carats. It was named Estrela de FURA (Star of FURA) to highlight its exceptional colour and size and to showcase Mozambique as a significant source of high-quality rubies. Even in its raw and unprocessed state, Estrela de FURA was regarded by experts as a truly exceptional natural treasure due to its fluorescence, remarkable clarity, and vivid red hue known as ‘pigeon’s blood,’ a colour traditionally associated only with Burmese rubies.

Estrela de FURA 55.22, named after its substantial weight of 55.22 carats, is an incredibly rare and significant gemstone from Mozambique. Its intense and unenhanced colour saturation, combined with its highly crystalline appearance and unparalleled size, positions Estrela de FURA 55.22 as the largest gem-quality ruby ever to be presented at an auction. With an estimated value exceeding $30 million, it is also the most valuable ruby ever to come to the market.

The Eternal Pink

Pink diamonds hold a special place of esteem among coloured diamonds. The Eternal Pink, weighing 10.57 carats and cut in a cushion shape, is the most vibrant and valuable pink diamond ever to be introduced to the market. With an estimated value exceeding $35 million, it also boasts the highest price per carat estimate ever assigned to any diamond or gemstone ($3,311,258).

While pink diamonds of various sizes and colour depths have always possessed an allure and reputation, this particular diamond surpasses them all. Regarded as the quintessential pink, it possesses an unrivalled colour and brilliance that is truly captivating and enchanting. Experts describe its aura as luminous to the human eye. The Eternal Pink is synonymous with the pinnacle of excellence in every aspect. This ultra-rare gem challenges the price per carat record set by The Williamson Pink Star, an 11.15 carat Fancy Vivid Pink Internally Flawless diamond that sold for $5,178,124 per carat at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in October 2022.

Among the various colour grades, “Fancy Vivid” is the highest possible grade for a coloured diamond, as exemplified by this exquisite 10.57-carat stone. The presence of a purplish hue often results in a charming and vibrant feminine shade, which is highly sought after.
