Tashkeel has reopened its Nad Al Sheba 1 Gallery with Of Liminal Threads, the debut solo exhibition by Syrian-Lebanese artist and designer Ranim Al Halaky. The exhibition is the culmination of her year-long journey as part of Tashkeel’s Critical Practice Programme (CPP), a framework of mentorship, research, and production that supports emerging voices in the UAE.

Rooted in personal and collective memory, Of Liminal Threads turns to the artist’s late grandmother Omaya, whose home in Damascus once served as a family anchor. Through textiles, stories, and rituals of return, Ranim reimagines fragments of summers past – the simmer of apricot jam, the hum of a ceiling fan, the folds of a Damascene blanket – into works that act as both archive and transformation.

Her practice spans cyanotypes, fabric stamping, sound, and printed textiles, assembled into “chapters” that echo the way memory unfolds: not linearly but in fragments, returns, and stutters. The installation becomes a space where intimacy and estrangement coexist, holding traces of movement, pause, and belonging.

Alongside the exhibition, Tashkeel has launched two collaborative initiatives that extend the encounter with Of Liminal Threads beyond the gallery. Gerbou Restaurant presents a dessert inspired by the artist’s memories of apricot jam-making, while the new Tashkeel Artist Collection debuts with a mug and plate featuring Ranim’s signature blue tones. Both collaborations offer audiences a chance to taste and collect the exhibition’s essence, carrying its stories into daily life.
