The 18th edition of Contemporary Istanbul is scheduled from September 28 to October 1, 2023, featuring preview days on September 26 and 27. The event boasts 75 galleries and initiatives from 22 countries at the historical Tersane Istanbul, a former Ottoman-era shipyard on the Golden Horn’s shores. The fair’s main partner is Akbank. The exhibitor list encompasses galleries from Europe, the Middle East, South America, Africa, East Asia, and the USA. Among them, 21 galleries are debuting, such as 4710 Gallery, Arma Gallery, and Aspan Gallery, among others.
Contemporary Istanbul’s distinctive CI Photo Focus spotlights contemporary photography. Headed by Simone Klein, this platform features works by 20 international artists, including an exhibition from Bousan Contemporary’s private photography collection. The outdoor courtyard of the fair hosts “The Yard,” curated by Marc-Oliver Wahler, showcasing sculpture, video, and installation works exploring industrial design’s interaction with the outdoors.
The CIF Dialogues, held from September 27 to 29, encompasses talks on CI Photo Focus, Art In Public Spaces, and Art in Residence. Themes include the ‘Photography Market’s History, Present, and Future’, ‘Art in Public Spaces’ and ‘Art In Residency’, led by Marc-Olivier Wahler. Tersane Istanbul, an architectural site with historical significance, will host the event.
Transportation by sea, provided by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Lines, will run from September 26 to October 1, 2023, connecting the fair’s location at Tersane to Hasköy Pier, accessible from Kadıköy, Üsküdar, and Beşiktaş. The 18th edition of Contemporary Istanbul promises a dynamic convergence of international galleries, dialogues, photography focus, and outdoor exhibitions within an iconic historical venue.
