Abu Dhabi Art 2023: Where Art and Culture Flourish

Abu Dhabi Art transcends the traditional art fair concept by placing significant emphasis on a dynamic public engagement programme. This programme unfolds throughout the year, featuring art installations, exhibitions, talks, and events held in diverse locations. The pinnacle of this year-long endeavour is the Abu Dhabi Art event in November, which not only provides a substantial sales platform for participating galleries but also offers them the opportunity to present ambitious installations and site-specific artworks to a broad audience.
Organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, this artistic journey aligns with their commitment to drive sustainable growth in Abu Dhabi’s culture and tourism sectors. It contributes to economic progress and supports the emirate’s broader global aspirations.
The upcoming 15th edition of the Abu Dhabi Art Fair, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is set to be the most extensive to date. Taking place from November 22 to 26, 2023, at Manarat Al Saadiyat, it will host an impressive line-up of 92 galleries from 31 countries. These galleries will focus on diverse themes, including Sustainability, Arab Women Artists, Latin America, Hong Kong, Modern & Contemporary, Emerge, and Special Projects. The visual campaign for 2023, setting the tone for the fair, is entrusted to Emirati artist Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim. His work is deeply rooted in his connection with the environment of Khorfakkan, his birthplace, and reflects the natural beauty of the Gulf of Oman and the Hajar Mountains.
Abu Dhabi Art’s commitment extends to inviting established artists to create installations in cultural sites, exhibitions in Al Ain, and support for emerging artists. The fair’s Gateway Exhibition, curated by Dr. Venetia Porter and Hashel Al Lamki, offers a unique perspective on local and international artists. Beyond Emerging Artists offers a platform to three emerging UAE artists, enabling them to develop their practice through a year-long programme culminating in the display of their artwork at the Abu Dhabi Art fair and international exhibitions; this year’s featured artists include Almaha Jaralla, Latifa Saeed, and Samo Shalaby, curated by Morad Montazami.
The 2023 edition spotlights an expansion, featuring a record number of galleries representing diverse geographies and curated exhibitions. It positions itself as a platform for discovering global art histories and diverse curatorial perspectives.
The fair continues to attract galleries from various countries, including new additions f rom Georgia, Mexico, Brazil, Singapore, and Chile. This diversity reflects the dynamism of the local and regional art market.
The 15th edition of the Abu Dhabi Art Fair promises to be an immersive and enriching experience, fostering global art dialogue, promoting cultural exchange, and strengthening the art ecosystem in Abu Dhabi and the UAE. With a diverse range of artists and galleries, it offers unparalleled access to art histories and research, enriching visitors’ understanding of global art perspectives.
