Rewind marks a new chapter for the Dalloul Artist Collective as it presents a solo exhibition by Yervant Hawarian, held in collaboration with the Ramzi and Saeda Dalloul Art Foundation. On view at DAC Art Space in the Stone Garden Building, the exhibition revisits Lebanon’s cinematic past through the hand-painted posters that once animated Beirut’s streets. From the 1950s to the 1990s, these large-scale images shaped public memory, merging graphic style, popular culture, and the city’s urban texture.

In this exhibition, Hawarian reimagines the posters that defined his early practice, rendering them anew on linen. His vivid contrasts and tightly composed scenes condense the drama of entire films into a single frame, reflecting the power these images once held to captivate passersby. What were once promotional objects re-emerge here as artworks in their own right; expressions of technique, labour, and visual storytelling.

Rewind is not simply a return to an earlier era. It proposes the act of looking back as a means of re-engagement, renewing the relationship between image, place, and memory. By reframing these posters within a contemporary context, the exhibition positions them as cultural artefacts with resonance beyond nostalgia, contributing to conversations around Lebanon’s visual history and its place within the broader landscape of Arab art.
