Meshwar of an Artist from Palestine to Lebanon at Dar El Nimr
At the end of the 19th century, many Lebanese settled in Palestine under the British Mandate. Maroun Tomb’s parents chose Haifa as their place of residence. He was born there in 1911 and studied engraving under the leadership of artists Hermann Struck and Paul Konrad Hoenich. From 1933, his pictorial manifestations were a success and his last solo exhibition in Palestine was held on the 29th of November 1947, the day the United Nations adopted the partition plan for the country. The Tombs then fled the country on the 29th of April 1948 for Lebanon.
In Lebanon he becomes the head of the artistic department of the Iraqi petroleum Company before opening his commercial office in 1965. Until his death in 1981, his art was shown in major Lebanese galleries as well as the Alexandria Biennale in 1968 ad 1970. The Exhibition documents Maroun Tomb’s journey from Palestine to Lebanon and ends with a dialogue between him and his son, artist Fouad Tomb.
