Expo 2020 is a host to some of the most exciting country pavilions marked by unique and stellar architecture representing each nation’s legacy and vision of the future.
Architect: NAGAYAMA Yuko/NTT FACILITIES
Location: Al Forsan
Inspiration: The commonalities found among Middle Eastern and Japanese geometrical patterns. The eye-catching façade showcases arabesque and origami shapes to represent the cross cultural reference.
Material: The facade features a geometrical 3D lattice made of a soft thin material resembling Japanese traditional paper. The intricate three-dimensional façade protects the pavilion from direct sun light.
The façade combines arabesque and origami motifs and represents the longstanding historical ties between Japan and the Middle East. The structure takes in traditional energy-saving systems from both cultures and can be seen as an example of sustainable architecture.
