TEMPERA
A method of painting popular in Europe between the 12th and 13th century, where pigment is added to egg yolk and sometimes water to create a fast-drying, permanent and inexpensive medium of painting.

TINT
Any hue or mixture of pure colours with only white added, not grey. A tint is used to lighten the colour and doesn’t make it brighter.

TONE
Produced either by mixing a colour with grey, or by both tinting and shading.
