Sharjah Architecture Triennial 2023 Edition Final Public Programme

Tosin Oshinowo presents Communal Tectonics: Social Sustainability in the Global South, a conversation between her and SAT02 participants: 51-1 Arquitectos, Hunnarshala Foundation, Bubu Ogisi, Henry Glogau and Hive Earth Studio.

In the Global South, limited resources have inspired innovative design solutions based on re-appropriation, re-use, and repair. These practices have emerged from ongoing communication between users, designers, and makers, and reflect a culture of adaptability and impermanence. These themes are integral to the curatorial framework for SAT02, which seeks to explore the beauty of impermanence in architecture and the potential for communal engagement in spatial practice.
The event features a forum for community members and craftspeople to exchange ideas and methods of practice related to social sustainability in the region. This interdisciplinary discussion culminates in the Communal Tectonics symposium on March 18th, 2023 at the Sharjah Architecture Triennial headquarters, where attendees have the opportunity to explore the role of social engagement in adapting to scarcity and designing for a sustainable future.
