Nabil El Makhloufi’s paintings reflect the intricate nature of identity and belonging. With roots in Fez, Morocco, and an education in Rabat and Leipzig, Germany, El Makhloufi merges Moroccan heritage with European influences. His vibrant canvases, characterised by dream-like imagery, capture the fragility and depth of human existence through lyrical realism. His art invites viewers to reflect on the relationship between the individual and the community, challenging conventional understandings of cultural and existential identity.

Sara Benabdallah’s ‘Dry Land’ series offers an intimate portrayal of Moroccan womanhood within the constraints of societal norms. Based in Marrakech, Benabdallah uses her lens to highlight the silent struggles and aspirations of single women in a conservative environment. Her photographs blend narrative depth with visual poetry, challenging stereotypes and providing a nuanced view of Moroccan culture. Through her evocative imagery, Benabdallah engages in a powerful dialogue about gender, societal expectations, and women’s resilience, amplifying voices often left unheard.

Slimen Elkamel’s paintings capture the essence of Tunisian culture through a fusion of poetic prose and vibrant visuals. Growing up in Mazouna, Elkamel’s work is deeply rooted in oral traditions and popular narratives. His art transcends geographical and cultural boundaries, creating a kaleidoscopic realm where reality and imagination intersect. Elkamel’s recent solo exhibition at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris highlighted his ability to magnify cultural heritage with grandeur and vision, presenting a rich tapestry of Tunisian expression.

‘Echoes of Identity: Poetic Heritage from North Africa’ emphasises the transformative power of art to transcend boundaries and connect diverse experiences. It offers a shared space where evocative landscapes and poignant narratives merge past and present, personal and communal, fostering a vibrant conversation about art, identity, and culture.
