M7, in collaboration with the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, presents “Masterpieces of Furniture Design,” in Doha from September 8 to December 9, 2023. Curated by Dr Mateo Kries, Director of the Vitra Design Museum, this showcase delves into two centuries of design evolution via 52 iconic pieces, celebrating names like Le Corbusier, Charles and Ray Eames, and more.

Maha Ghanim Al Sulaiti, M7 Director, expressed excitement about bringing this furniture collection to Doha. The exhibition explores diverse design styles and emphasises the role of design, from addressing technical challenges to crafting beauty. It also highlights the influence of the digital age on furniture and showcases original pieces like the Wassily armchair by Marcel Breuer and Eileen Gray’s E 1027 Side Table.

“Masterpieces of Furniture Design” categorises its exhibits based on seven design principles, offering an insightful look into design excellence. The exhibition includes an archival section with prototypes and documents, providing a historical backdrop for the designs. Additionally, it features the Atlas of Furniture Design, a comprehensive history of modern furniture.

As a complement, Al Mana Maples will host the Miniatures Exhibition, featuring 1:6 scale replicas of classical seats. An international roadshow showcasing iconic Vitra products will also be part of the exhibition.

M7 plans an engaging lineup of public programs, including conversations, masterclasses, workshops, and tours, to run alongside the exhibition. The Zwara program, starting in tandem with “Masterpieces of Furniture Design,” will challenge designers to draw inspiration from the show.
