The Book by Ahwa, a publication showcasing the art scene of the SWANA (South West Asia and North Africa) region, launched on the 22nd of December in Amman, Jordan hosted by Manara Arts & Culture. Featuring the works of over 40 creatives, the project transcends borders to spotlight established and emerging talents across diverse disciplines, fostering a deeper appreciation of the region’s vibrant artistic landscape.
At its heart, The Book explores the theme of connectedness, weaving together the personal journeys of creatives who inspire and collaborate to push boundaries. Readers will meet a range of individuals, from cultural pioneers to fresh voices redefining the creative industry. Through visuals and narratives, the book highlights the abundance and diversity of talent rooted in the region. What sets The Book apart from most coffee books is a more personalised approach, allowing the reader to connect with the artists on a more personal level.
The featured creatives were selected through a process involving the project team and emerging professionals from the Arab creative industries. The shortlist highlights individuals whose work reflects cultural roots, innovation, and significant contributions to their fields. The final selection ensures inclusivity across creative disciplines and represents both regional and diaspora perspectives.
Nadine Al Rifai founder of Ahwa says the following regarding the book:
“After an extensive and meticulous effort to gather this sample of creative genius stemming from our region, it is with the greatest enthusiasm that we unveil The Book. This is more than just a collection of works bound together; it stands as a tribute to the rich culture and profound artistic ingenuity that our region embodies.”
Sustainability and social impact are key pillars of the project. Each eco-friendly cover is crafted from upcycled jute coffee bean bags donated by Al Ameed Coffee, ensuring every book is unique. Proceeds from sales will support the Ahwa initiative, which empowers young Arab talent with the tools to ignite their careers and contribute to the global cultural landscape, with 20% donated to HEAL Palestine, the Lebanese Red Cross, and the Giving Joy Foundation.
